TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Premieres GR GT & GR GT3

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) has world-premiered two new flagship models, the GR GT (road-legal race car) and the GR GT3 (FIA GT3-spec race car), representing the pinnacle of TGR’s philosophy of building “ever-better motorsport-bred cars.”

These models follow in the footsteps of legends like the Toyota 2000GT with a core mission to pass on “the secret sauce of car-making” to the next generation.

TGR has successfully unified all of Toyota’s racing activities under one global banner, leveraging international competition—like the WEC and WRC—to accelerate technology development.

Key Highlights & Technical Excellence

Both models are developed under a strict driver-first approach, focusing on three key technical elements: low center of gravity, low weight with high rigidity, and superior aerodynamic performance.

Model Core Concept Key Performance Target (GR GT) Key Technical Innovation
GR GT Road-legal flagship sports car. System Output: 650 PS or greater Toyota’s first all-aluminum body frame
GR GT3 FIA GT3-spec race car for customers. System Torque: 850 Nm or greater 4.0L V8 Twin-Turbo Hybrid system

Power & Packaging

  • Engine: The GR GT is equipped with a newly developed hybrid system featuring a 4.0-liter, V8 twin-turbo engine and a single electric motor.
  • Design: A reverse approach to styling was used, where ideal aerodynamic and cooling performance was established first, before finalizing exterior design.
  • Development Team: The project was spearheaded by TMC Chairman Akio Toyoda (Master Driver Morizo), uniting professional drivers (Tatsuya Kataoka, Hiroaki Ishiura, Naoya Gamou), gentleman driver Daisuke Toyoda, and engineers in a “one-team” approach.

The Road Ahead

Development is ongoing, leveraging insights from motorsports, including extensive driving simulator use and real-world testing at circuits like the Nürburgring. TGR is targeting a launch for both the GR GT and GR GT3 models around 2027.
